More Frustrations On The Night Ranger

Finally got an evening to work on my Night Ranger (Lawn Ranger painted Black).

 

Was trying to fix my whole brake issue. Was able to bend the band so that the new brake lining doesn't rub the drum when the brake wasn't being applied, and now she rolls freely.

 

Went to work on the brake linkage issue next. Took off the whole center upright to give more room.

 

Here's what I had. Notice the linkages don't match the manual diagram.

I couldn't get part number 154 off the shaft. Took out the pin (part 42), but I couldn't get 154 off the shaft.

 

I drilled out the smaller hole to allow the brake trunion to go into the lower hole (part 101), but once that was in place, I couldn't get any of the other parts to fit.

 

Here's where I'm at now. Notice the brake rod (part 147) is now way too short, and the parking brake arm (part 192) won't fit.

Maybe I just need to sleep on it. Thought I'd see if anybody can help or had ideas.

PS, I also found a nice little surprise with the shifter set screw. Was broken off and the loose piece was inside the shift boot. Fantastic

Something looked off to me so i looked at the manual and what i have on our two rangers. The manual and your pics show two holes. Both of ours have three holes. 🤷 not sure which one is correct? But on both units the brake rod(53) was connected on the lower hole. Hope this helps.

now i’m wondering whats up tho? Yours and manual accurate or is three holes correct and the manual is off. Weird that both our machines are the same tho and yours matches the manual.
