adsm08 1,431 #1 Posted August 22, 2021 While trying to diagnose a power-loss issue on my 800 Special with 8HP Briggs I removed the muffler. One bolt broke in the block, the other won't start back in. Obviously running it with no muffler is not an option, unless I want a burnt valve. Ultimately I would like to replace the muffler with something else, something on a pipe, but the port is not threaded. How safe is it to run a pipe tap in that hole, or am I likely to crack the block?
peter lena 8,067 #2 Posted August 23, 2021 @adsm08 , very important to use TAP FREE , WITH YOUR TAPS. another thing is to gently use that starter tap , as it will be cleaning out rust and crud , keep it wet with that tap free , to flush and lubricate. use the 3 taps to complete the hole, pete
