Bentoolong 94 #1 Posted August 9, 2021 (edited) Folks, I picked this up last Friday. It needs work but has a lot of good things going for it. The PO said the wiring went bad and he doesn't like to work on electrical (good for me, I'm OK with it). It was not running due to the tore up wiring. I see mouse chews and some disturbing "meltage" near the Rec/Reg. So far I have been going over things and taking stock. Lots of bolts missing and things that need lube/adjustment. The guy threw in an extra hood and a box full of parts including another shot wiring harness. I'm gonna have some questions about the hydro (my first) and I'll be posting over in that forum soon. Same with electrical. This one is going to take some time and I'm looking forward to it. So far I have cleaned a bunch of electrical connections just to get it spark. I found that the points were set so wide that they never closed. Now I have spark. Tomorrow I'm gonna try to get a pop out of it and then its off to the fuel delivery system. Bentoolong PS. the pics are from the POs ad. I'll put more up soon. Edited August 11, 2021 by Bentoolong new pics 7
Tuneup 1,452 #2 Posted August 9, 2021 That's not rough for 1977. Ah, freshman year in HS... My '77 is much worse and still can mow the lawn like a beast. Wish I had that old Sunstrand. Good luck!
ebinmaine 72,952 #3 Posted August 9, 2021 Very cool. I'll be looking forward to this one. Sounds like you've got a good plan in place. Try to get it drivable fairly soon so you can test the hydro. Should be a fun project for you.

Wish I had that old Sunstrand. Good luck! It does seem to loo fairly good once you look things over. I had a 79 that I couldn't find any paint on. This one looks like it was stored inside. It has had numerous things done to it but no "modifications". Good paint and wait till you see the seat. That'll be late in the project I'm sure. Tuneup 1,452 #6 Posted August 9, 2021 The PO with mine just bolted the seat to the pan. Makes for 'numb butt' during mowing. I do have to shop a bit for that old machine but I keep getting others that need 'the treatment' first...

The seat is nice and has the "u"shaped spring brackets.
