Kelsey 91 #1 Posted July 11, 2021 (edited) Greetings all, I've been reading up on K241 engines information on this forum. Also, I've read about the dreaded balance gears. If a 241 has balance gears in it from the factory, can you just remove them? In the event that they are removed, do you have to have a balance plate installed on the crankshaft or have the crankshaft balanced prior to a complete rebuild? Thanks, Kelsey Edited July 11, 2021 by Kelsey
squonk 43,799 #2 Posted July 11, 2021 . Only thirteen K241 engines came from Kohler with balance gears installed. These engines have the specification numbers: 46578, 46634; (Allis Chalmers); 46590 (Yazoo); 46593, 46608, 46633 (John Deere); 46664, 46718, 46764, 46803 (Simplicity); 46809, 46810 (Grainger); and 46838 (Ingersoll Rand). oliver2-44 10,711 #4 Posted July 12, 2021 As Squonk replied, no Wheelhorse k241's were known to have balance gears. by some odd chance that you have them remove them and toss them. No balance plate or other modification is needed. The stub shafts that the balance gears mount on do not need to be removed.
rmaynard 16,293 #5 Posted July 12, 2021 If an engine has balance gears, they can be removed and nothing else needs to be done
