1973 wheel horse 14 8 speed wiring ?

Recommended Posts

So I'm trying to get my 1973 wheel horse 14 8 going and so far it looks like I need an ignition switch. But also need to know where this wire goes. I tried looking on the wiring diagram but can't figure it out. So I'm hoping someone here can help with this wire. So I put a new battery in and there is nothing. No lights doesn't turn over. I looked over the ignition switch which looks a bit corroded. So I'm replacing it. Other then that there is this wire which I have no idea where it goes. Thanks in advance guys. The wire in question looks like it goes too the ignition switch. Possibly. Haven't unwrapped it yet. 256697871_IMG_20210705_1642568232.jpg.69ae92e6131493135d2d1ddb5bfc132f.jpg

If you can tell us where the other end of the wire ends up we can probably help you out.    :twocents-02cents:   That hooked terminal on the wire is not a stock :wh: terminal so a previous owner has been in there at some time in the past 48 years.   With the battery in place do you have 12 volts to the "B" terminal of the ignition switch?

Have never seen the hook terminal on original wiring.

The only orange wire in the original diagram is for the voltage regulator and it should be in a 3-wire connector.

Do you have power to the ignition switch? If not go back to the ammeter and see if both posts have power. If no place both wires on one post and that will bypass the failed meter.

If you have 4 position switch (circled in blue) follow that schematic. If you have 3 position switch (circled in red) follow that. 1st schematic is for electric pto, 2nd for standard pto

Do you have 12 volts at the coil.  if not some safety switch may to be blame.  Run a jumper from battery + to the coil plus then see what happens...

Thank you. I will check tomorrow. I'm trying to put together a parts list but am having a hard time finding the right ones for the 73 14-8. I figured I would just replace all electronic parts. Thanks
