C-160 Engine "Re-swap"

Recommended Posts

mrodgers

Hello All,

I recently acquired a C-160 that I am working on restoring most things are minor and I may ask questions later. The biggest problem I have is that someone before me swapped the Kohler 341 for a Yanmar TS50C diesel engine (5 hp). Because of this I can't run anything off the PTO. In addition parts are impossible to find because it was an imported engine from the 70's. Does anyone know where I can find a new or rebuilt engine? I would really like to bring this tractor back to as close to original as possible. Also any advice anyone has for replacing the engine would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Horses are herd animals, so no matter what you do if you have one horse, sone you will have several.  So, consider finding a 2nd Wheelhorse for PTO applications. Keep the Diesel for its wonderful torqu to pull/push ground engaging implements such as snow plows, garden plows and disk.  Also diesels are just cool rarities in the WH world.

A Yanmar air-cooled Diesel needing parts?   That's a first!

Those old yanmar's are still running all out of farming in asia.

It originally had a Tecumseh HH160 or Kohler K341AS.

There is a filter missing, a cover for the intake is missing as well. I also wanted to Reroute the muffler/exhaust up. I don't mind keeping the engine I just don't know where to find parts. I will upload some close up pictures when I get home. Here is the engine plate.

I’d keep that Yanmar. It’s a workhorse .

You may want to look for a parts tractor too, since I see your going to need several PTO parts for that machine that appear to be currently removed.  What your thinking of doing may require a significant amount of $$ to do if you buy parts from several different sources.
