BMW1 44 #1 Posted June 12, 2021 Rebuilding a Ross Steering box for a D180. What are people using for the felt gasket?
pacer 3,177 #2 Posted June 13, 2021 After digging around the shop looking for anything that would be suitable for a hand made one I came across a piece of --- thickish? cardboard and cut my own, seemed to work fine. Ive rebuilt so many of those boxes, I could prolly do it blindfolded - now getting those 3 attachment bolts out and back in is REALLY fun!!!

BMW1 44 #4 Posted June 13, 2021 I was watching a youtube video of a person rebuilding a ross steering box and it looked like sill plate gasket material like below was used. Owens Corning® FoamSealR™ 1/4" x 3-1/2" x 50' Sill Plate Gasket at Menards® Any opinions on this being a do or don't?
wallfish 18,239 #5 Posted June 13, 2021 Any auto parts store will have gasket material in many different materials and thicknesses. Or search Gasket material --- and buy a kit which has a bunch of different materials if your not sure exactly what you need. Good stuff to have on hand and around the bench. Something like this https://www.amazon.com/Fel-Pro-3060-Gasket-Material/dp/B000CNKUGO/ref=asc_df_B000CNKUGO?tag=bingshoppinga-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=80607997944711&hvnetw=o&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4584207577309487&psc=
