Flywheel Mandrel

I am refurbishing a 1980 C 165 Automatic ( 01-16KS01-1708  9203 )   with a Kohler K341 engine (K341 Spec 71303A   SN 9724332 ).  Would like to check the flywheel’s balance but none of the machine shops in the Wichita, KS area have a correct seized mandrel for this flywheel.

Anyone know where one could obtain a mandrel this size (tapered approximately 1 1/8” by 1”)?

 Thanks in advance.

if i was looking to buy one i'd be looking at McMaster Carr or Manhattan Supply websites

keep in mind that tapers in machining are usually expressed in degrees  or inches per foot. for example the taper on an old Ford tie rod end pin is expressed at 1-1/2 inches per foot or 7 degrees. i'm not sure what 1-1/8 by 1 fits in

if i was looking to make one i'd  whip one up on my lathe.   the machine shops you went to could not make one?

Could you see if someone has a crank shaft with a bad rod journal? Cut the flywheel end of the shaft off to use as a mandrel.

WHX??

Does it really need to be balanced if there is no metal or fins broke off it?
