Magnum 14 governor adjustment

Recommended Posts

David414

In order to remove the stock exhaust fitting from my Magnum 14 engine, I had to remove the governor linkage to make room. Upon re-assembly and start up, the engine would surge badly. Reading past posts and the engine manual, I found that my problem was the governor linkage needed to be re-set. I adjusted the governor to what I believe is now correct. Engine starts right up, idles correctly, sounds good, and no surging.

My concern is that I remember reading a past post, that the manual refers to turn the shaft counter clockwise. This depends which way is counter clockwise? Facing the engine or facing the front of the tractor when you turn the shaft?

If I turned the shaft  the wrong way, how will I know it? Engine surging, loss of power, etc.

Thanks

The shaft turns counter clock wise as you are facing it. This method of adjusting the governor is the same on many small engines of all brands. CCW rotation or CW rotation is dependent on which way you have to move the governor arm to open the throttle to wide open. The shaft must be rotated in the same direction as the arm to get to full throttle.

If you turn the shaft the wrong way you would experience hunting, very short throttle lever movement to go from idle to wide open, or your engine would not idle down.

If every thing seems to work correctly, then I suspect that your adjustment was correct.
