23 Reo 229 #1 Posted May 11, 2021 I am having a heck of a time trying to get spark on my newly acquired 1983 C-125. I installed new points and switched out the coil and condenser one at a time from a running tractor. With the ignition turned to run I am getting 12.4 volts at the coil. At start I am getting 8.9 volts at the coil. The points seem to stay open a long time. They are open 1 1/4 turns or 450 degrees. Then they are closed 3/4 of a turn or 270 degrees. squonk 43,376 #2 Posted May 11, 2021 They should be closed most of the time and start to open about 20 Degrees before TDC. You need to reset the point gap 1

You need to reset the point gap Thanks for this! Just used it on my C 85 project and it worked like a charm!!!
23 Reo 229 #4 Posted May 12, 2021 I checked my points and the setting was .020 ". I then loosened everything up and reset the points being as careful as I could but no spark. The long duration of the open points has me puzzled. I put a few drops of machine oil onto the breaker push rod to make sure it was moving freely. The points are still open 1 1/4 turns or 450 degrees. This seems much longer than any of my other Kohlers and any engine I have ever worked on. What is spec? What could be causing this? This is my first small block.
