PTO lever..

Recommended Posts

Hey again..

I'm stumped at trying to get the (looks to be replaceable on the parts fiche) plastic handle off of the PTO lever on my 96 520H WH??

I need to replace a snap ring to keep the bushing in on the side panel and I don't want to ruin the handle by twisting or however it is staying on the lever..

Thanks much for info..

Using a crescent wrench, fit it to the round steel shaft just under the plastic handle.  Then, with a small hammer, tap the wrench against the bottom of the handle...it should begin to slide off after a few raps.  An open-end wrench that just fits the steel shaft handle will also work.

I've slid a thin screwdriver between the plastic grip and the steel handle. While rotating the screwdriver between the grip and handle ,I spray penetrating oil up inside. Then I take a pair of pliers and remove the grip with little to no damage.Actually pretty easy to do.Good luck.

pto, opportunity to also tighten up that sloppy lever joint action , top photo shows' the stack of washers typically added to the horizontal end of the lever under the battery ground rail, done this on 3 of my horses , also related are added battery ground cable from engine corner to ground rail , easier battery tender plug in spot . if you are going to be in the area  , why not ? , pete

I did something similar. Be sure to thoroughly wash away the penetrating oil before putting it back on! (I made a pinhole at the end to make it easier to get the air out when it was going on.)

Yup,you're right.Without the pin hole, that grip wants to slide right back up and off the PTO rod.REAL tight fit.
