Repaired and repainted

Recommended Posts

Don1977

Started out with the deck, clean up repair and paint. Then I took the tractor apart and repainted it. The wheels were in good shape just needed some new paint, and I was not going to remove good tires to spray them, so I just painted them white with a brush.

I really like that front bumper set up Don!

Can you get us some closeup photos of it and a description of how you fabricated it?

I think ther are others who would be interested in doing something similar!

Looks great Don! I really like the bumper setup. Does it bolt into existing holes? Is it interfering with the front attachamatic at all? No clearance issues?

The bumper is 2" x 1/2" bar. The braces are pieced up out of 3/4" x 1" angle boxed. They were not long enough so I welded a piece of 5/16" x 1" flat to them, 3/8"x 1" would be better for the braces. . The braces are spaced off existing holes in the frame with 1/2" water pipe that is welded to the 5/16" x 1" and is bolted on with 4 - 3/8" bolts. It's fun getting the nuts and lock washers on above the front axle. Yes ever thing still works.

The hubs, spindles, tires, and wheels are 3500 lbs. trailer tires. I sawed off about 2" or so off the 1 3/8" spindle drilled it to fit over the tractor spindle cross drilled it between the bearing surfaces. I also sawed off part of the tractor spindle. Welded the end and both sides in the cross drilled holes. They have been on the tractor 12 years. I bought all the parts from Northern, got there about 10 minuets before they closed and grabbed up the parts. The hubs I got don't fit those wheels, I had to turn them down. The hubs that fit have loose studs.

Yes it mows great.

Don: Thanks for all the details! It is a great idea and such quality calls for duplication!

I saw this version of a bumper guard at the Portland, Indiana show in May of this year. I tought it was a nice additon to a wheel horse tractor also.

Here is a closer view of the setup to the frme:
