Pat Marchwick 91 #1 Posted April 27, 2021 (edited) I have a 520h that has no spark. I trouble shot per another helpfull posting and with a meter found out my coil was bad. No ohms as the posting said I should have. I ordered and received a aftermarket coil for $30.00 and tested it with the ohm meter and it was at 3.2 ohms of resistance. I installed it and was thinking it would fire right up and have bragging rights for the smart repair. Nothing happened. I tested the coil again and it now reads zero. Did I buy a weak coil or is there a way that a coil can be damaged that fast? thanks for the help Edited April 27, 2021 by Pat Marchwick Spelling
lynnmor 7,710 #2 Posted April 27, 2021 You bought a cheap Chinese coil so that could be a problem. I wonder if the engine wiring was played with and you are getting AC voltage to the ignition system.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,390 #3 Posted April 27, 2021 Is the condenser connected to the coil (+) terminal? That is not normally what we see but that is how the Onan Twins are wired. (Engines with points have the condenser connected to the (-) coil wire to protect the points) The condenser must be mounted to a grounded surface to complete the circuit and is there to absorb voltage spikes in the battery power supply. Pat Marchwick 91 #4 Posted April 27, 2021 Yes the condenser was wired to the positive terminal and attached to the tin bar that the air cleaner base gets bolted to.
