Rear wheel removal

Recommended Posts

StuckInTheMud

Hopefully a simple question with a simple answer, but probably not!

Do I need a special tool to remove the cover on a Wheel Horse 268HE rear wheel as per the photo so that I can (try) to remove the wheel and not just the tyre?

Thank you from sunny France.

Welcome to the forum.

You have no cover there. Just remove the 5 wheel studs.

Im not familiar with that model, but if you remove the five hexagon headed bolts the wheel should just come off the hub.

Im not sure what cover you are referring to, is the centre a plastic cover for the hub?

Just jack up the back and take out the bolts to see what happens . Remember if the wheel centre is a tight fit on the hub the wheel can need some persuasion to come off, especially if its rusty.

I once drove a truck round our repair depot with no wheel nuts tight and the wheel still would not release.

Thank you so much Mike.  By the time I had eaten breakfast in sunny France you had solved my problem!

I had assumed that the wheel was fixed at its centre and the five bolts were to hold the two halves of the wheel together.

Now to see if it comes off but I can see that is not always simple.

Thank you again.

That's what this wonderful forum is all about Jon, helping where we can.

So much skill and knowledge available from good people who love their Wheelhorses.

Glad it makes sense now but these things can be vexing if you don't have much prior experience.

Welcome along.

Mick.
