1972 Commando 8 36 inch mower deck.

Hello everyone,  

I am looking for a replacement deck for my 1972 Commando 8.  The one I have is rusted through.  Are there other decks from other years and models that will work?  I currently have a 36 inch rear discharge deck.  Any help is much appreciated!!!

Rusted through such that welding in some patches wouldn't be a solution?

The mower listed in 1972 is 5-0620

Medium frame tractors require 102607 drive belt.

Blades with 3/4" center hole are readily available. 5/8 x 3/4" maybe not available.

If it's not a requirement that you stay with the 36 RD, you can also go with side discharge.

 

If I were looking for a newer deck I would try to find the newer one with the 17mm bearings as those are MUCH more readily available, as are the blades with the 3/4 hole as opposed to the double D type

The DNA list was taken from the Attachment Interchange with an improvement.

The list shows 1 the original decks, 2 the deck that replaced the original deck and 3 the deck that was available in 2000 when the list was made.

I added the decks between the last two.

Garry,  I've seen this term used many times but am not sure which is short, medium, or long frame.  Can you expand on that a bit at the risk of slightly off topic?  Thanks!

 

@Joecxp as a "by the way" Joe,  in the deck listing, as an example, the MR in the listing indicates REAR discharge.  SIDE discharge are MS.

 

I'm not sure if the 36 is available in SIDE discharge, but if it is, it would be 05-36MS02

I did miss one model 1-0130. Not sure if it is a 1973 or 1974 model and may be a Belgium built model for Europe and may have been named a Commando for that market.

So I found the model number on my deck.  It is a 50620.  Unfortunately,  the deck is too far gone for repair.  What is a newer deck that I can replace it with that I can still find parts for?  From what tractor?

I think Garry's posts have answered that Joe.  He gave a list of decks that will fit and later explained the belt differences.  Go back and look at his posts.

 

Get the newest one from his list that you can find, most preferably with the blades that use the 3/4" hole and spindles that take the 17mm bearing as these are easy to obtain and much cheaper.  You'll need the belt that Garry listed.

 

So that means 1983 or newer.

 

Further, it doesn't HAVE to be a REAR discharge, nor does it HAVE to be a 36" deck.  You can run  a 42" or a 48" if you find one.
