Interesting I thought

I found this posted on another forum. Never heard of it before, but there are lot's of things I've never heard of. This is a condensed version. It's a Honda generator.

It is a eu2000i. It starts and runs for
one second and dies every time. It has gas, spark, and compression.
So far Ive changed carburetor, fuel pump, and rectifier. Ive also
checked compression release, oil level sensor, piston and rings,
cylinder wall, and adjusted valves. Everything checked out good. It
almost seems like it floods itself out. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

He did manage to get it fixed. Any guessers out there before I edit and post the final findings, in 5 minutes?

OK A little more

. As I said before it would start and run for one second and die. What I didn't pay any attention to was what it did when it died. It would jump around on the bench, and then would be very hard to pull the rope. I noticed that if I pulled the rope slowly it would release compression out of the carburetor, then it would be easy to pull and start. Again it would run for one second and die. Then it hit me! Why was their that amount of pressure in the cylinder?

Were the exhaust gasses getting out? I tried again, and this time once it started, I put my hand over the exhaust, and didn't seem to feel anything. I tried again, this time I stuck my finger in the exhaust and plugged it completely. There was absolutely no pressure! I took the muffler off, pulled the rope and BINGO!! She fired right up and purred like a kitten!

Makes me wonder about the motor on my C125 A  It does pretty much the same thing. Have not messed with it yet.

Low on gasoline.  Enough to get the carb primed but then... pfffffttttt ...

Loose electrical connection.  OK when not running but the vibration causes intermittent connection and the engine dies.

Does it have points?  Bad condensor.

These small inverter generators that do not run wide open (3600 rpms) all of the time have an issue with the muffler or the spark arrestor plugging up with carbon. His findings are not real surprising to me.

If your exhaust is plugged it will not run. I have not heard of this happening on a garden tractor, but it is possible.

Follow up on generator that would not run.

Wasp nest!!! I cut it apart (the muffler)and found a little wasp nest in the exhaust pipe! Just enough to plug it up. Thanks again for all the replies. Its been a fun little project.

Yep, I had that issue on a 2 cycle scooter. Fiberglass mesh in muffler was soaked with oil and carbon. Drove me nuts for awhile trying to figure it out

That's the first thing I look for on a non running 2 stroke.  Heard a guy on my job talking about a clogged exhaust being the first thing he checks.  It was great advice, and I never forgot it.  Bill
