953 nut 51,768 #3 Posted March 11, 2021 Many of us will not install balance gears (grenade gears) when rebuilding an engine. If you choose to install the balance gears you should put in the replacement bearing set for them.
The Tuul Crib 7,332 #4 Posted March 12, 2021 I took the ballast gears out of all my kohlers. They make great paperweights! I really didn't notice much of a difference since I've had them out.
pfrederi 17,147 #5 Posted March 12, 2021 (edited) OK I was going to make a separate post but ... There is a noticeable difference with out the balance gears. I have done two engines now a 301 and 321 and left out the balance gears. you can feel a vibration in them not noticeable in their unmolested cousins.. as far as setting them follow the manual it isn't easy but next one i am putting them in.....
