Agree with that, also a ball hone will do nothing to straighten a bore where a three stone type will help a bit. Only a rigid hone or bore job will do a proper repair of an out of spec. cylinder. pacer 3,177 #5 Posted March 3, 2021 I like both types ... A "dingleberry" (ball type) is my most often choice, but I like to have a good condition 3 stone for the occasional cylinder. Oddly enough, I am right now working on a recent K532 that ran really well but needed to strip all the tin off to get rid of a LOAD 0f chaff. So, when I'm this far into a new - to me - engine I will at least pull the heads to get an idea of its internal condition. So for the first time in the some 30-40 engines I have been into - this one was absolutely pristine, cyls checked exactly on standard specs and on pulling a valve to ck its condition it also was like a new one!! I must have miced those cyls 3-4 times thinking they couldnt be THAT dead on! I didnt even break out either hone -- did a slight adjust on one intake and one exhaust valves clearance and am putting it back together. I wish they could all be that way!
