BeninCT 451 #1 Posted February 8, 2021 Engine was surging a little in short spurts and notice the occasional smell of gas from the tractor when it sit in my shop. Is there a go to supplier for carb parts that everyone likes? Thinking needle valve/float but will prob just clean it all up when I am in there. Machine is new to me and runs good but who knows how long it Sat.
ohiofarmer 3,372 #2 Posted February 8, 2021 You could try just taking the bowl off and possibly there is water inside.. Then take the main jet needle out and checking that the cross drilled holes [called emulsifier holes i think,] Sometimes that is all it takes. then take out the small needle and Blow carb spray through both needle holes. i could be wrong about the carb, but my point of reference is a k-series Kohler.

Bill D 2,247 #4 Posted February 8, 2021 I use a Briggs float bowl PN 221995. When rebuilding the Kohler carbs. It's made of anodized steel and less likely to corrode than the aluminum bowl. It won't fit a Walbro carb if that's what you have. Bill
BeninCT 451 #5 Posted February 9, 2021 So far I have just found carbs that look like the one I have and replaced them entirely (after working on each for an hour to determine that they don’t want to run right). Not sure what carb I have- anyone tell me based on this pic? Terrible pic but I have it on hand.

I had the bowl off and float/needle out for cleaning and blast of carb cleaner but didnt ream out any passages which actually reminds me that the gasket looked rough. Maybe I start with that and see what happens. Good point- thanks
BeninCT 451 #7 Posted February 9, 2021 Think the smell of gas is from the gasket around the fuel shut off at the bottom of the tank. Anything can be done about that? The ones I have seen are just push in rubber things and no way to tighten.

But then it might have the same chinese rubber Edited February 10, 2021 by ohiofarmer
