Huntingtown520hc 6 #1 Posted January 11, 2021 I have a 1989 520hc and I am confused do I need a lift chain and trunion to attach the lift arm ? It appears that the lift arm is currently connected to the lift lever with a solid rod. Do I need both or am I ok to operate the mower deck with the just the rod? Lee1977 7,214 #2 Posted January 11, 2021 The trunion eyebolt and chain was standard equipment on all later model Wheel Horses. Not sure what you have unless it's the short solid link for the snow blade.

c-series don 10,034 #6 Posted January 11, 2021 (edited) You need a chain and trunnion. This way the mower deck is free to float up and down with the terrain. Unless that bar you’re showing is not threaded in the trunnion and can slide up and down. A solid lift link is used for down pressure with a dozer blade, mid-mount grader blade or cultivator. You may also want to move the trunnion to the rear hole in the lift lever as shown in the dwg. Garry supplied.

Wonder what s/he had in mind? Or maybe this was a feature of the HC (hydro commercial) models? Remembering that your unit has hydraulic lift, I would be thinking about two things: 1. the hydro lift itself doesn't have any float (i.e. it "locks" in the position you set with the control-- up, down or middle) so when the mower moves up and down over the lawn and pushes up or down on the lower lift arm, will that bar slide back and forth through the trunnion smoothly or offer resistance (you can't push on a chain )? 2. mounting a front snowplow (I don't know much about this so hoping someone with better knowledge will ad their 2¢)
Lee1977 7,214 #10 Posted January 11, 2021 My C-120 and 48" deck came with a rod and trunnion . It worked fine until it started to bind up and bent the rod. I then replaced with the chain type.
Huntingtown520hc 6 #11 Posted January 11, 2021 Thanks for all the help. I think I will keep the rod and replace it with a chain if I run into any issues.
