Kelly 1,033 #1 Posted May 25, 2009 I picked up another set of the Wheel horse white wall tires and from what I've learned about them only 33 sets were made, and all were used at the 1968 indy500 on the charger's that were used to push/tow the race cars, and they are the tractors that the drivers raced around the track for the one lap of indy, that they did every year, there is pictures of the tractors in the new WH book of the tractors lined up ready to make the one lap, with the drivers, and they have the white walls, I owe thanks to teddybear for sending me the link to the CL ad that had the tractor they were on, I was going to buy the tractor but.... he wanted $650 and it was beat and beat bad, lots of wrong parts, any way I talked him out of the tires I had to give him a set to put back on it, and $100 but heck where am I going to get another set? well part of a set he only had 3, both rears, and one front, I'll have to fake the other front, for this set, and I know it looks good but what is up with painting the rims red??? both sets of white walls I have are on red wheels ok not sets 1 set and 3/4 but so far they are the only ones known to exist, I'm sure there are more hidding in a barn or garage that grandpa is still using, but also how many are just gone?? these are scared up from years of tire chains, but have zero weather cracks in them. sorry for being long winded but I'm kinda proud to have 2 sets of probably the rarest WH tires going, and they have history to them. bo dawg 517 #2 Posted May 26, 2009 Nice find Kelly I like the red rims, it sets the white walls off. If the rims were white or cream color it wouldn't look right against the white walls.

linen beige 15 #4 Posted May 26, 2009 Kelly, I know where there is another set! I saw a set of these mounted on the correct tractor a couple years ago. That owner may still have that tractor.
Kelly 1,033 #5 Posted May 26, 2009 So we may know of 4 sets? that's not bad for being 40+ years old and only 33 sets to start, if you guys could get pictures that would be great, and if still on a charger get the serial no.
