Recommended Posts

My 854 is not doing anything when I turn the key, I've checked my wiring per the diagram all is good, the tester will light up when I chk the positive wiring from ignition to coil and ground it from the engine block but not when I touch it on the neg on the coil, or the ground on the starter.replaced neg from key switch to starter and neg wire from points to coil, cleaned all terminals and nuts.

The Negative on the coil should flash when cranking. If it does not even light up you may have an open primary circuit in your coil. What does the negative terminal do when the motor is spinning with the starter?

What size battery are you using (CCA)?  An undersized battery won't have enough to turn it over s/g.  Pull the the plug and try cranking it

If I understand correctly the engine will turn over when the ignition switch is turned to start but the engine is not producing any spark. The first thing would do is remove the cover to your ignition points, with them in the closed position place a dollar bill between the contacts and pull it through to clean any oxidation from the points. If there is no change I would try a small jumper wire from the battery "+" to the coil "+" terminal to be sure the coil is getting electricity. Also check the coil "-" side as Mike suggested.
