Jim Turner 47 #1 Posted December 3, 2020 I am wanting to buy a 1045 or 1055 . I think the fenders look better on the 1055 but the 1045 sprung seat looks like it may be more comfortable. Have any of you compared the older style vs later?
ebinmaine 72,382 #2 Posted December 3, 2020 Well here's a new one to me. I see online that 10-4-5 has the early 60s round rear fender while the 10-5-5 appears to use the new for that year full pan. Folks is that right?? Is this a case of the Ponds creating a hybrid to use up old stock? Anyhow... Back the PO initial question. Comfort is very much a personal opinion. If it's going to be an often used tractor your best bet is to try both and see... Perhaps it's an actual honest reason to buy both??!! I'm using a '64 seat/spring with a helper coil on my Big-wheel build. I've set on it and it feels ok but I've never driven one so equipped. I do know that on the 70s vintage models I'm more familiar with I remove the U-shaped springs under the seat because I personally prefer to have a nice solid base that doesn't move around while riding around our rough terrain. FYI, I also prefer the same in commercial trucks. I never use the air seat because my torso is so lengthy and I prefer the stability of a seat that doesn't move. It is a legitimate possibility that I'll not be fond of the old style setup on my build once put in use but... I'm after the barebones look. I'd change/modify as needed when some seat time has happened.
squonk 43,714 #3 Posted December 3, 2020 1045's did use up stock and are quite sought after. I would get it over 2 1055's. The seat flat on the pan on the newer style never thrilled me for comfort. I have a 1075 that isn't too bad but some models it feels like you're sitting on the ground.
Pullstart 66,596 #4 Posted December 3, 2020 1045 all the way! We built a mock 1045 with an 857 and some round hood parts this spring/summer. If you have parts available, a spot weld drill bit and a welder... follow along in the link here... 1
