Smokes in start up?

Recommended Posts

I've got a k321 here and it runs awesome lots of power etc. I had the head off awhile back and all i really  did was lap the valves set the valves new head gasket and put back together. The piston and sidewalks looked good and there wasn't any side to side play . It smokes a lot when you go to start it up but then goes away . Maybe I should have gone farther on it I'm not sure rings bore job etc money ?

It could be valve guides or rings possibly, but once temperatures rise things expand enough to seal it up.  You could try some sea foam in the oil to do a hefty innards cleaning before an oil change, then run Lucas oil additive.

Is it blue smoke or black smoke when you start it up?

SEVEN , have had very good results with RISLONE PRODUCTS , https://rislone.com/product/ring-seal-smoke-repair-4416/  the best thing about rislone is that it , CUTS ENGINE VARNISH AND CLEANES OUT OIL FLOW PASSAGES , most important is to put some time on the oil , so it can get hot and break down and flush varnish out. works best with fresh oil so you can see the color change starting , the longer it stays in , till liquid black , is really showing you the crud removal. then do it again , for a more thorough varnish clean , the hotter and longer it runs the more it cleans . this is only my own experience , but the rislone products I have used have transformed the smoothness and running in my kohlers  , pete

I had one that was doing that about fifteen years ago, now it smokes a bit more but is still strong. As long as you have good power I wouldn't mess with it.

I had briggs that would smoke like crazy on start up with the engine running strong.  Being the tractor is such limited use I didn't see a need to tear it down.  I added lucas and it cleared it up.  Still running fine
