dgjks6 8 #1 Posted May 21, 2009 I am looking at a tractor on ebay - it is a 520h and the post says the only problem is a valve seat is loose. Is this a big deal? How hard is it to fix?
refracman 167 #2 Posted May 21, 2009 Them valve seats can be reinstalled and be reliable engines, BUT first you must find a machine shop that knows what they are doing. Usual cost for the repair is around 300 for parts and machineing. Thats if you only remove the jug in need of repair. A complete rebuid on a onan will cost 1000+ for parts and machining thats if you do it yourself and you have the speical tools needed to tear down the engine. Coadster32 793 #3 Posted May 21, 2009 I thought Duke got his engines done for about $400 a peice? :omg:
refracman 167 #4 Posted May 21, 2009 Maybe a kohler or a old briggs, onan parts alone are around 800,
big mike 13 #5 Posted May 21, 2009 A 10 pole isn't long enough for me when dealing with blOnans :omg:
dgjks6 8 #6 Posted May 21, 2009 The ad said that instead of fixing it he bought a new one. Now I know why. I'll keep looking. Thanks
zieg72 209 #7 Posted May 21, 2009 If it can be had cheap enough do what I did, re-power it with a Kohler. Part what is good on the Onan, I have seen used muffler's go for nearly $100 alone on the bay. I will not have a lot of money into mine after it is all said and done.
