JC_wolf64 1 #1 Posted November 24, 2020 wheelhouse 212-5 Kawasaki engine not charging battery. I'm having problems finding the problem but I don't understand how the battery charges without an alternator, the previous owner messed with all the wiring and the starter motor is on the lights switch. it works but it doesn't seem to charge the battery

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,513 #6 Posted November 24, 2020 Some parts lists are shared so not uncommon to see a different transmission or engine in the manuals. All those models listed are the Kawasaki powered models as the model number is a K. The 5 is the manual transmission speeds. Near as I can tell the tractor ID decal is on the rear fender pan under the left side of the seat. Left and right always from the operator's position in the seat. Should have the model number and serial number on it. The 212-5 is the model name. Want to get you the correct tractor wiring diagrams is why the tractor model number is important. Here is an engine service manual that will walk you through testing the charging system. Garry

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,513 #8 Posted November 24, 2020 We do not have a wiring diagram for the E2-12K501 which I think is a 1988 model. We have a later diagram which uses the Kawasaki engine so hope it is the same as what you have. Download a pdf version here Kawasaki uses a voltage regulator I am not familiar with. Has multiple wires. Garry
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,513 #9 Posted November 25, 2020 Here is the test procedure for the voltage regulator. Click on the picture. Took me a minute to figure out how to use the chart. Garry
