DennisThornton 4,771 #1 Posted November 19, 2020 (edited) Normally if there's a fairly complete garden tractor nearby for $200 or less I just go load it up. But I don't need another project so I'm going to pass AND I don't know enough about the early models to know how hard it is to find parts. So if someone is interested in going to Vermont for this I'll be happy to pass on location info but please share some thoughts for all of us on how hard it is to find ALL the parts needed to restore the early models. The hood with paint caught my eye until I saw the added ventilation holes! I know how to weld and work sheet metal and I could fix that but I'd rather look for another hood, well, actually I have one. So I offer this as something to chat about and I'm not sure that a link is OK or I'd post it now. From what I can see the hood is now ventilated! Otherwise I might have been motivated to get it but I REALLY can't do this horse justice. Just no time...

DennisThornton 4,771 #5 Posted November 19, 2020 I almost never see one for sale so I got excited at first, until I saw the holes. But there's a deck too! And those custom headlamps!

Don't want it as a project but I'd love for someone else to and for me to learn a little bit about the value of the older model parts. I'd think that a couple of parts would add up to $200 but I'd like to hear from others.
sqrlgtr 705 #10 Posted November 19, 2020 Thats the thing about the one year odd tractors all the above mentioned stuff would be worth alot to someone wanting a true resto but might not matter to much to others.I wouldnt pass on it if it were close to me and I had some food in the house lol....

It's tempting to me but I won't complete my to do list as it is so it's silly for me to get involved but I was hoping someone closer would like to know. Bill D 2,279 #13 Posted November 19, 2020 If you do pick it up I would love to know what model Briggs that is and how they mounted it in the tractor. I have a 15 hp out of an MTD 990 that I was thinking about installing in one of my tractors just for the fun of it. Bill

Yeah, I'm not on my way but I was wondering if I was wrong to think so. Doesn't flip my switch. It's just that i don't see any out my way and thought maybe others would find it interesting. Stepney 2,354 #18 Posted November 20, 2020 That particular tractor has been posted for almost a full year.. same pics and all. Around this area, depressingly, its simply of no value. That engine, even running, I have had quite a number identical to it I couldn't even get 35.00 for. Heck I struggle to even get the price of a aftermarket gasket kit out of a good K301. Body parts may have value but shipping kills that off real quick. Considered it a few times but just unfeasible in the end or me to try and save it. Price drops a little more every few months. Bill D 2,279 #19 Posted November 20, 2020 I would love to have the tins off that engine if they were good. Mine are all rotted out from a mouse nest. Bill

73chas 0 #21 Posted November 20, 2020 That poor hood, they had a overheating issue, the solid front hood caused, but wow people just destroy the hoods without hesitation.
Red Headed Horse 38 #22 Posted November 20, 2020 Certainly worth picking up as a project or, dare I say it, as a parts tractor. I am in a similar position with a 1960 Suburban 400 here in the U.K. but its rarity over here whetted my interest in getting her. I guess $200 bucks isn't a lot for something that could be saved? WHNJ701 4,165 #23 Posted November 20, 2020 Without writing a long explanation sometimes your better off spending more to get a running and complete tractor. 200 isn't much money but in the end your going to spend hundreds or more to make it original and correct again

Not following that concept is why I have so many projects that I'll never finish! I don't see this as a fixer upper but parts only. But I have little idea what the parts are worth. Hard to tell from this photo and my limited knowledge, but I would have thought a good deck could be worth $200.
WHNJ701 4,165 #25 Posted November 20, 2020 (edited) Who knows about the deck, I have one for mine, will I ever use it, probably not. It will be for display use someday. I have been recently going through all my attachments and selling off ones I don't need or will never use. It's been challenging enough just to find someone with interest to buy or take them, the attachment s really don't hold any value anymore sadly Edited November 20, 2020 by jabelman
