Disaster Strikes Before the Big Show

Recommended Posts

Suburban 550

After finishing up my 702 restoration, it was time to move it out of it's winter storage place, our spare house, to see how it runs. The tractor was originally a 502, pull start Tecumseh that I replaced with a Kohler that I bought off a guy that I thought was a fairly decent friend. After running it for a while I noticed a slight knock that got progressively worse. I pulled the engine and took it to an engine builder who tore it down and found the engine was beyond rebuilding. Called the guy who sold me the engine and he told me he had it running and it was perfect when he sold it to me with no knocks or no smoke. Well the old bandit must have had his hearing aids turned off that day. In steps my great friend Duke who went out of his way for me. I talked to him last week and told him the 702 wouldn't be making the show. He told me he would take one of his spare engines and send it to his engine builder and send it to me as soon as possible. Well low and behold guess what the mailman brought yesterday? Thanks a million my friend, I greatly appreciate it. Here are pics of the 550 and 702 I'll be taken to the show.

Thanks Duff and Stephen for the compliments. Guys, Duke is one of the best in my books, always willing to lend a hand to someone despite having problems of his own. This isn't the first time he helped me out. Thanks again, Duke.
