metalhead0920 10 #1 Posted November 14, 2020 Good morning guys, quick question. For plowing, would you go with a 1077 hydro, or a C81 with 8 speed?
SPINJIM 1,986 #2 Posted November 14, 2020 If the 1077 has a hydraulic lift, definitely go with that. Raising and lowering the plow by hand gets old very quickly if you have a good amount of plowing to do. Jim
pfrederi 18,714 #3 Posted November 14, 2020 Hydro hands down. Much faster especially if you have to do much backing up....
SylvanLakeWH 28,589 #4 Posted November 14, 2020 I only have an 8 speed. Works great every time...
Pullstart 67,042 #5 Posted November 14, 2020 (edited) I favor a gear drive for the majority of what I do, but the constant forward and backwards, there must be a reason most commercial guys use automatic trucks... I got halfway through a stick shift plow truck build one time and realized it was going to give me a Popeye left leg running the clutch so much! Stepney 2,354 #7 Posted November 14, 2020 A 1077 might also have the limited slip 10 pinion diff, a major advantage in the snow.. hydros are nice for plowing in general anyway,.

Unless the rear end has been swapped out it will NOT have a 10 pinion limited slip...
71_Bronco 1,072 #9 Posted November 15, 2020 Welcome to the forum! I plow with a Commando 8 (8hp, manual lift, 3-speed trans). Its a little bit of a pain having to work the stick constantly, so id venture a guess and say the hydro would be easier. However, its still a blast to plow with the stick. I also swapped an 8-speed with a limited slip differental into the Commando 8 this summer, so it should be interesting to see how it performs this winter. rjg854 12,250 #11 Posted November 15, 2020 Last winter plowing with the 877 was much faster than with the Commando 8, but still had to lift the plow by hand. This year I want to give the Raider 12 a chance to see if there's any difference in traction with the limited slip transmission. I may switch over to the C160 because of the hydraulic lift. Those plows get heavy after a while.
