Almost forgot! The axle. 48" x 1" galv. pipe.

Lined with 1" steel 36" long, leaving room for 12" x 1" 15T Spline with two clevis pins.

Washers welded both sides for nice flats securing the paddles or flappers.

Old tire, combine belt, whatever's handy.

Each paddles 6" x 14" , I used eight, planning a counter-clockwise pull or drag

I remember hulling black walnuts by hand when I was young.  Two weeks of walking around with walnut coloured hands.

Lots of flavour though.

I enjoy watching the squirrels sitting on the railing of our deck hulling the black walnuts.    Little guys really are fast.

You've got to love American ingenuity and all American strength aka wheel horse. I even see an old corn shelling machine hooked up to my wheel horse! Right now as we speak I happen to know where I can find one!

Michigan Nut Growers Association designed this Huller.

It was built using an old hot water tank, longer and heavier!

Then this one member designed one with 55 gal drum, easier and more cost effective.

Earlier this fall as I was walking the dog, I started kicking a black walnut  along the paved trial we walk on.  The hull was gone in about a 1/4 mile.

It would be a long walk to put a cup of nuts in some muffins.

Probably burn more calories than are in the muffin, though.
