volt meter

<_< how would hook up an volt meter to a 12 volt systeam. Is by the wire harness or outher t/y from T1257

To be safe it should be fused.

And to prevent the voltmeter form draining the battery, it needs to be connected to a place that has power only when the ignition is on.

So.....

Connect the (-) to ground

Connect the (+) to the fuse block (any fused circuit that gets cut off when the ignition is off would be fine).

Make sure to connect it to the fused side of the fuse box. If you are uncertain which side is fused , remove the fuse. The side that is still live is the unfused side, so your (+) wire should go to the other side.

How to interpret your volt meter

With the engine running above a fast idle, you should see just under 14 volts. When you turn the engine off the voltage should drop to about 12.4 volts.

If you let it sit over night voltage should be between 11-12 volts before starting.

If the above are not true, take a look at your amp meter. If it does not show current, then your problem is the charging system . If it does show current, then you either need to run it for a while to charge the battery, or the battery needs to be replaced.

:omg: t/y wheelhorse but this is a 1978/79 c141 and I have it all apart I did not notice any fuse block. Just straight wiring, to where it was needid. it sounds like by ur e-mail I can runit of the key or in my case the push button starter. t/c Gary B........................

Does it have lights? If so it should have an inline fuse in the dashboard space under the hood behind the dashboard.

If not, I would advise you pick up an in-line fuse holder! Don't want to risk a burning horse.

If you post the model code number off the tag on the side there is a good chance someone on this board will post a wiring diagram.

My Charger had no guages, though you can see from my sig. that is no longer the case.

:omg: T/u wheelhorse. no there are no head lights that in use. there are but some one cut the wires at the bulbs. and the switch that turend them on/off is used for a kill switch. This is the way I bought it. alittle hack`t up but every thing worked before I tore it down. if I could get a wiring diagram this would help. the only plate that I found was on the side,it said I.D.#`s 81-14ks01-094738060 I hope this did help u.
