OEM Starter Died

Recommended Posts

Looking for suggestions on where and what to buy. The engine is a k301 spec #47421d  s/n 7201246. From what I can tell, new kohler part #45 098 09-s. Little pricey at $150 to $250! Is there a good aftermarket brand that might be recommended? Anyone have a working, oem used starter that they might sell. I know these are no longer produced new and was wondering if a reputable starter shop could repair? Even serious repair like rewinding armature or field windings? Thanks in advance for the help. Disassembled starter today and found the lower magnet had cracked in half and was no longer bonded to the housing.

That's a fairly simple starter to rebuild and clean out. Pretty much any half decent old school automotive electrical shop would be able to do that for you.

Took starter to local repair shop. Was told that it was beyond repair. Can not get permanent magnets and the armature was burned up. Bought aftermarket from eBay for $49.95 free two day shipping.

My $49.00 (eBay) starter has been working well for over 10 years.
