Mikefeds 15 #1 Posted November 7, 2020 Was working on the C-141 hood and took the headlight out to clean up and so I could pail the hood. When I took the light out I found the white background paint all peeling and literal fell out. question is ... I want to paint it again .... do I use a special white paint or just a plain white...and gloss or matte ? And can I get away with stainless bolts instead of rivets to re-install ? btw... hood came out great ! Thanks in advance for any suggestions !
pfrederi 18,714 #2 Posted November 7, 2020 Gloss white paint or some reflective stuff from Eastwood. Bolts are Ok 1
pfrederi 18,714 #3 Posted November 7, 2020 I should add i have started using the foil tape used for duct work. If you switch to LEDs you can line the back and even cover the openings on the top of the housing to increase reflection 3
Achto 29,432 #4 Posted November 8, 2020 I paint mine with a gloss bright silver metallic. I think that it reflects better than the white does. 1
71_Bronco 1,072 #5 Posted November 8, 2020 I riveted mine back in. They were 1/8 if I recall correctly. If you use screws, you'll have to use counter sunk ones, as the headlight lens sits on top of the screw heads. 1
71_Bronco 1,072 #6 Posted November 8, 2020 Just a thought, but don't they make a spray "chrome" in a can? Never used it before, so no idea how it comes out. Wonder how that would work.

I used the Eastwood stuff...unimpressive. Try foil tape if you use LEDs 1
WHX?? 51,909 #9 Posted November 10, 2020 I tried polishing one to a bright aluminum. Didn't work out the best. I like the silver tape idea tho.
