bds1984 1,497 #1 Posted November 3, 2020 I recently had a very nice running 310-8 from its original owner come to me that needs some fixing. The downside is the charging system must have acquired an electrical gremlin from last week's full moon. I have at one leg coming from the stator producing 54-60 volts, the other is 14-16, both are AC voltage. There is a regulator of some variety fastened to the dash tower pictured below. I have no voltage going in or going out AC or DC. I've never seen a regulator like this before (it has no markings on it), let alone a 3-amp system. Is this from the three-amp charging system? Is the lower voltage to power the head lights while the higher is for the diode/regulator? I am not opposed to wiring up an entirely new system, I'd rather not go that route even though I have a complete 15-amp system from a 312-8 I parted out earlier this year. I'd much rather repair the current system if at all possible if it easy enough. I've looked at a few diagrams but do not see anything like what is in the pictures. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,391 #2 Posted November 3, 2020 I suspect what you are calling a regulator is a low oil relay and has nothing to do with the charging system. What is the model and serial number of the tractor? Garry 1

If you are using a small digital multimeter to take the readings it is probably picking up inductive impulses from the stator giving you improper readings. Keep the meter away from the running engine to prevent this. As Garry said, you are pointing out the low oil relay, has nothing to do with charging. Given the model number we can see what the wiring system is and help identify any problems.
bds1984 1,497 #4 Posted November 3, 2020 I understand that this relay has nothing to do with the charging system. I was only asking what this is is because in every single cylinder K-series powered Wheel Horse I've had, this is where the voltage regulator is and every Wheel Horse I've had that is supposed to have the oil sentry system in it, doesn't have it because of a previous owner removing/bypassing it; the wiring system on this machine has been hacked in a few places for who unknown to me reasons and is probably why it is sitting in my garage. My multi-meter has long enough leads on it that it was sitting on the fender or I was holding it in one hand while I was taking readings. I will look for some numbers when I get home from work but I am leaning towards this unit having a three amp system that will probably be upgraded to a fifteen amp system.
