pfrederi 18,670 #1 Posted October 28, 2020 Been fitting an M16 into a Charger 10. Had to do some exhaust mods to keep the muffler away from the neat decals Terry made for me. Got to wondering again why the blocks for K341 and M16 are threaded for 1-1/4" exhaust piping while 10-14 hp blocks are 1". That makes some sense as there are more cubic inches of exhaust being ejected from the 16hp.BUT every K341 WH spec I have seen has a reducing bushing down to 1" and the expensive fancy elbow on M-16s is threaded for 1-1/4 but the output pipe is the same as the smaller 10-14hp versions. Anyone figure why WH went that route?? You would think it would reduce engine power and maybe damage exjhaust valve over the long haul.

oilwell1415 563 #3 Posted October 29, 2020 I'm sure the root cause gets down to cost. There's no reason to keep two parts on the shelf if one can do the job. I doubt the smaller pipe hurts power significantly. Looking at other things like valve size I doubt the exhaust pipe is the biggest restriction in the system.
