kasey54 305 #1 Posted October 24, 2020 I'm helping a friend with a 69 electro 12 , and have a couple of questions. First off the tractor looks and seems original though it has a manual pto clutch, not electric. Is this an alteration or were some that way? It has the electro 12 decals and hydraulic lift. 2nd question is about ignition. Is it electronic, or magneto? Where would I find schematics for it? I'm hoping for some photo's. Thanks for any info. seven 202 #2 Posted October 25, 2020 My guess is someone converted it to a manual pto which is what I did I think it's more reliable anyway . It's probably has the magneto under the flywheel also which I also bypassed and put in my coil pack which really helped it always had a very weak spark but after that it starts right up. Good luck
MDD 0 #3 Posted October 25, 2020 Exactly how is this done. I don't have an exposed Coil, but do have points and condensor. The Spark Plug wire is looking very bad and I get all sorts of weird power fluctuations at unpredictable times. I believe the Coil is under the Flywheel, but when we last had it off, we broke the tip for the screen screw off the crank and had to JB Weld it back on. Needless to say, I'd just as soon not take the Flywheel off again. Can an external Coil be done without removing what is under the Flywheel? I have a lot of manuals, but not sure what configuration I should follow to bypass the under flywheel coil. Let me know if you followed a specific wiring diagram. Also, I do not believe my system charges very well and that could be why it appears that I lose spark at weird times (maybe an hour or two into cutting, the Electric clutch starts to fail. The Engine used to carry on strong, but now the ignition appears to fail first, though the Clutch fails very soon after once I do get it going again. I always though the charging issue was always the regulator rectifier which tends to be a very difficult and expensive item to replace. I have replaced it before, so perhaps it could be the coil system? I'm not that interested in going to a manual clutch as I fear the mechanism would be costly. My tractor is a Charger "Electro" 12. model 1-7235 Not sure of the year, but we think it's around 1970... Ideas?

Here is a link to associated reading material that should be helpful. After five decades of vibration and corrosion it is likely the the wire connections could be in need of some attention. Clean and tighten ALL electrical connections including grounds.. https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/search/?&q=1-7235&search_and_or=and&sortby=relevancy
