kasey54 305 #1 Posted October 24, 2020 I'm helping a friend with a 69 electro 12 , and have a couple of questions. First off the tractor looks and seems original though it has a manual pto clutch, not electric. Is this an alteration or were some that way? It has the electro 12 decals and hydraulic lift. 2nd question is about ignition. Is it electronic, or magneto? Where would I find schematics for it? I'm hoping for some photo's. Thanks for any info. Stepney 2,354 #2 Posted October 24, 2020 We'll need to see the coil to really know.. they had THREE ignitions on that model. Magneto usually is a 1968, SSI and battery/electric seem to switch around together in 69-70. Manual clutch is wrong. The original electric likely failed and this was the standard repair process, as both then and now, an electric PTO was rather expensive. Manual is better on the implements anyway.. If you see no coils at all and the plug wire goes behind the shroud, thats a magneto. A short, squared looking coil is the SSI, and a generic round 3 wire coil is a points fired battery ignition.

MDD 0 #4 Posted October 25, 2020 I have a Charger "Electro" 12 with a Stator under the Flywheel. Not positive, but it appears to be working intermittently and it also does not appear to charge the system regularly. Most times, I run out of juice to run the PTO and intermittently get intermittent spark as best I can tell. I've seen talk on the site as to how the Stator/Magneto can be bypassed for a standard external Coil. Can someone point me in the direction of how this can be done and if it can be done without removing the Flywheel? (last time we did this we broke the tip of the crank for the screen screw off. We repaired with JB Weld and it has held for years and we'd just as soon continue without removing it again). I'd like to know if the external Coil setup can be done without going to a manual Cutter Clutch or removing the flywheel. Any help, list of coil spec/other parts needed and perhaps a wiring diagram would be helpful. Thanks Matt
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,493 #5 Posted October 25, 2020 MDD You should start your own thread . It is hard to keep the facts straight so we give you the correct info. Post your tractor's model and serial number from the ID plate under the dash panel. Post the engine model and spec number off the engine decal. Garry
