Jimmy0331 27 #1 Posted October 19, 2020 Hello all, so I have a 1969 raider 12 model # 6241 My battery keeps dying between uses. It will take a jump. When it’s running with my meter I have 14.7v at the battery terminals. Replaced rectifier last season. With meter to ground at the center orange wire on rectifier I have 14.7v. So I would assume it’s charging the battery. Any thoughts? Or anything I am missing? Thanks
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,393 #2 Posted October 20, 2020 Is the top of the battery clean and dry? Any dampness can be a short between the posts and drain the battery. Other than that disconnect the negative battery cable after the next use and see if it loses it's charge while sitting. That will determine it the cause is the battery or the tractor. Jimmy0331 27 #3 Posted October 20, 2020 Roger that thanks. The top of battery is dry and clean. I’ll try removing the negative terminal and see what happens. Thanks
Pullstart 65,903 #4 Posted October 20, 2020 If that doesn’t help, try disconnecting the lighting circuit, the pto clutch if electric, etc... one at a time. An amp meter would tell where the draw is also.
squonk 43,407 #5 Posted October 20, 2020 If you have a 12v test light, unhook the negative cable and connect the light between the cable and battery terminal. If it glows you have a circuit on the tractor drawing the battery down. If it doesn't light up ,your battery is probably shot.
