Red Headed Horse

Evening,

I am collecting this old girl shortly and I am just wondering what model it is. Is it a Suburban? Thanks

I'm no expert on the early years but I'm gonna vote:

Sure does 61 I am guessing, hopefully those 6-12s are still good, they got some nice tread on them

Based on the square hole at the rear of the hood, it’s either a Suburban 400 or 550.

It is a Suburban, probably a '60 model 400. The fenders seem to have some custom work done on them.

Thanks for the replies. Yes the fenders have been modified in the past. I will get more photos on collection. Sadly there is no engine with it.

Well I collected the WH yesterday morning and got it back home. It was all in bits when I collected it from the seller whose father started dismantling the tractor some time ago. The obvious bits that are missing are the engine and fuel tank and no doubt a few other parts. I also picked up an original WH single furrow Plough and a WH cultivator too with it too. I pressured washed the chassis, wheels and the Plough and cultivator. 3 of the 5 grease nipples that I have seen so far have had grease pumped in it and I have freed up the seized steering column.  I also removed the additional tinware to the fenders but I have kept it as I am sure part of it may contain the original belt guard? The front wheels are very rusty as the original tyres have water in them to aid traction. The plough scrubbed up well with some of the yellow paint coming off revealing the original red paint below and all the moving bits been  liberally lubricated.

For those who know me i me I have a collection of Bolens tractors but I always had a hankering for a round top WH such as the Suburban or a RJ. I was struck by the simplicity of the WH whilst I was going through it yesterday and even with my simple mechanical knowledge and limited skills I can see how the old girl is put together.

Photos to follow in due course. Any helpful tips on how to go about restoring this example will be appreciated. Cheers

The plough have cleaned up well removing a lot of the flaky yellow paint to reveal the original colour.

The fenders looks a lot better now that the additional tinware been removed.
