ohiofarmer 3,372 #1 Posted October 4, 2020 Still working on the c-145 tractors. i had a pretty good day yesterday, except now the welder quit feeding wire. I put some penetrant in the gun switch and it makes noise[solenoid] inside the welder, but still no movement of the wire. What I discovered is that welding the thin stuff works best when using the same thickness of metal and welding right into the seam at a 45 degree angle. i used an old gas tank from a honda engine and was able to get things pretty tight The second step will be JB weld to act as a stiffner and body putty of sorts. the last step will be to put bolts through from the back to act like studs and mount cork gasket material and fender washers to try to prevent tearing out again.. the older series Kohler engines had thicker sheet metal, but even then they can crack with time. one of the ears on the cpil holding hardware was missing as well. I might just make a bracket mount at another location as well. stay tuned for some piccs later A reminder to also check the frame "ears'" on the transmission tunnel at the rear. Old bed frame rails fit nicely and add strength to the seat mounting. i know that i shouldn't use my body to sit on the high side of the seat when mowing ditches, but in our township, every farmer mows the ditch in front of his house.
