Adams94 1,068 #1 Posted October 4, 2020 Finally got my tires mounted that I picked up at Portland. I expected for it to turn a little easier but I was shocked at how much better it turns! Plus it looks good! 3

bc.gold 3,405 #4 Posted October 4, 2020 Tri-ribs, put much less stress on the steering geometry.
ebinmaine 71,086 #5 Posted October 4, 2020 Very nice. The front tires I had loaded have been on 3 tractors so far. They're oversized at 20 x 8 x 8. Hold 5 gallons of Rimguard each so there's around 120 lbs of extra front weight. I love the extra ballast and don't regret doing it but it does steer "with effort". On the big boy tractor I'm going with tri ribs. I'll be curious to see how they go.

My Allis 720 had wide front tires leaving the factory, forty five years later the steering box needs to be readjusted while the Simplicity 9020 shipped with tri-ribs the box is nice an tight. Both tractors use recirculating ball type steering box's very similar in design the a ball screw. Recirculating ball steering mechanism contains a worm gear inside a block with a threaded hole in it; this block has gear teeth cut into the outside to engage the sector shaft (also called a sector gear) which moves the Pitman arm.
