zieg72 209 #1 Posted May 17, 2009 I tore down the C165 today and transplanted the 16 Kohler on the 520 frame. I was pleased that the holes for the Kohler mounts were there. It was a pretty easy swap. I had to use the 520H engine pulley for the hydro I guess because it is larger. After putting it on the belt is still a little big. The 16 sits a little lower than the 20 Onan so the drive belt cover from the C165 fit decent. The stiffeners in the hood will have to be modified or removed because the muffler from the C165 hits it. I modified the PTO from the Onan because it seemed a better fit than the offset one from the C165. I will use the C165 seat base because my 520 is cracked and rusted out. I like the lower back anyway. If the steering wheel from the C165 will go on the 520H I would like to change that out as well. The smaller wheel will be better with the winter cab as the steering wheel is real close to the windshield. I had to put the spinner knob on the inside of the wheel because it would not turn. All in all a good day. Next weekend I'll tackle the wiring.

zieg72 209 #3 Posted May 17, 2009 Sounds like its coming together real nice. What went wrong with the Onan? Mike......... I bought the 520H without an engine. The engine sucked a valve seat and was optional when I bought the tractor. I passed on the engine.
zieg72 209 #4 Posted May 31, 2009 Good and bad today.... The good, great day to work out in the garage. Started out by polishing the hubcaps. I figured out the wiring and got everything but the lighting circuit done but all wires are run, just need the ends for the rear tail lights. Got a working volt meter, gas gauge and hour meter. Put the rear lift mechanism in and just need to get another cable lift tube. Starts and runs great but I need a slightly smaller drive belt for it. The hydro moves the tractor so that is a start. I cut the inside brace so the hood would shut past the muffler. The bad, I put the floor jack under the rear end to swing the tractor around and found the left hub is really loose and slopping around the shaft. I took it off and hopefully the hub from the C165 will work, it looks to be the same. I got the set bolts out and have some rust bust soaking the hub. Darn skeeters took over so it was a good stopping point for the day.
