Voltmeter moves to the left like it is draining when I turn the lights on.  Anyone with any suggestions.

If the voltage drops when the lights are turned on and doesn't recover with in a second or two your charging system is faulty.  What model are we talking about here, lots of different systems over the years

Well I would see it as natural that the voltage drops a bit when you turn on the lights. It's often a pretty big job for this type charging system to maintain full voltage under load. How much of a drop are we talking? try with a multimeter and give os the voltage on full throttle with and without the lights on. That way it is way easier to guide you :-)

Just as an example, right after start up, my rig drops 1.5 volt when I use the electric pto...............................

It depends on how much your Voltage drops in wich Engine status, idle, half throttle, full throttle

How old is your battery?

what is battery idle Voltage without any load or running Engine?

what is the Voltage on Engine half throttle without lights

what is the Voltage on Engine half throttle with lights?

was it permanently used and maintained or did it sit for longer periodes without any use and care ?

Did you changed any bulbs, added any lights maybe to „ brighter ones“

all that can also increase the current consumpt.

have you a compare to before or what Voltage you get shown or was it just a feeling?

is the Ground wiring checked, than it have good conduction?

Lot‘s of unknowns in this equation.

batteries normally are aging, the slower, the better is care taking of them

and each older a battery is, they need the longer to fully recharge.

a gently Voltage drop is normal when you put a load ( lights or electrical PTO) on the System

because your Charging system is not comparable with a Car charger.

so for help, please a bit more info
