oker 12 #1 Posted September 24, 2020 Hi from spain !! The front left ball joint breaks , so i can´t turn . i have found that the toro part reference is 98-8086 , the distribuitor here in spain says that this part is not longuer avaible , but if i search in google i have found several us websites that sells this part , price starts from 45 $. Here in europe when a manufacturer discontinues a part , we use to look to the norm that the manufacture used to build this part , in this case in europe all the lawn and garden tractors use F type Ball joints SAE J 490 , so is like to do a reverse search , in this case i´m not related with american build norms , so ... anybody knows wich norm use toro to build this parts . Regards !!!
peter lena 9,301 #2 Posted September 24, 2020 HELLO OKER ! , just saw your question and quickly looked it up , found one in the uk ,if that's good for you , ? https://www.torotractorspares.co.uk/toro-tractor-r-h-thread-ball-joint-98-8086 , price was about the same and a lot closer , when you said ball joint , i was not thinking a steering end joint , anyway if that helps you out , it could be worth a look , welcome to the site , pete

oker 12 #4 Posted September 25, 2020 Pete lena , many thanks for your reply , i have already contact with this company in UK , but sadly the shipping cost and taxes from uk to spain put this part over 200 $. In the past i have similar problems with and old case ingersoll lawn tractor , and i always solved looking for the norm under the part was built , i don´t think that toro manufacture this part , for sure they bought this steering end joint to another company . i will keep searching . Thanks anyway.

Lee1977 7,221 #6 Posted September 25, 2020 I use Heims joints. You can get them with a treaded stud or you can use a trough bolt. I have both kinds on my Wheel Horses.

oker 12 #8 Posted January 15, 2022 A few days ago , one of the balljoints passed away , so instead of replace it with a heim joint i try to find a similar part to the original toro ball joint (98-8086), i have found that the stens 245-043 can be fitted to my tractor , the ball stud it´s a little bit shorter but works well . Hope it helps to anybody who wants to replace toro 523 dxi balljoints.
