Engine question help

Recommended Posts

DG1776

Hello everyone.  I'm looking for help regarding my C 145.  I've developed a fuel leak towards the front of the engine right by the exhaust.  I'm thinking that the part I have shown in the pics is the fuel pump but I'm looking for confirmation.  The only time fuel leaks, it is spraying out when the engine is running.  No leaks otherwise which leads me to believe it is not a line but most likely a seal on the pump itself.  That is only a guess.  I'm hoping that someone has some guidance to help me out.  Thank you in advance.

You are correct about that being the fuel pump. Do you know exactly where the leak is coming from? Looks like those lines have been on there for quite some time.

The fuel pump itself has four screws around the outside four corners that you can sometimes tighten.

IF you need to repair the pump I would recommend getting a rebuild kit from Then And Now Automotive in Massachusetts instead of buying a cheap new one.

Thanks for the reply.  I think it is coming from the pump itself from the looks of it.  I'm a little reluctant to let the engine run too long with the heat from the exhaust right next to it.

I'll try tightening those screws and see if that does anything.  I really appreciate the help.

It would be a great idea to go ahead and replace those lines.

I certainly do not recommend running the engine until you've got the leak location figured out.

Maybe get some break or carb clean and spray it around in there. Get the area cleaned up some to get a better idea what's going on.

Keep an eye on the engine oil level.

It does not happen often but fuel can leak into the crankcase and dilute the oil.

If it were me l would go with an electric

pump. Real simple to hook up and it

will give you quicker start ups.

All true but you still got to get rid of that pump that's on there now and get a block off plate

Not necessarily... Install your electric pump bypass the original.  Won't hurt anything. no need for a block off plate I guess you could wrap eectrical tape around the in and out fuel nipples if it made you feel better.
