JohnD 145 #1 Posted September 20, 2020 Here's a video showing my fuel pump test on my 1983 KT-17. I think it looks adequate. Am I missing anything?
AMC RULES 37,196 #2 Posted September 20, 2020 Does it pump like that at the carb height too?

When I ran this test I also checked the plugs and the PO had them gapped at 40+ mil. I dropped them back down to 0.030" and haven't noticed much difference. I'll buy new plugs just so I know my starting point.

JohnD 145 #7 Posted September 21, 2020 I thought about bringing the gap all the way back to 0.025" but I wondered if they were playing some trick (hotter spark?) with the bigger gap, so I brought it almost all the way back. The first start seemed much faster, but the following starts were still slow. I'll set the new plugs to 0.025" for sure. Back in the early '90s I used to run plugs with the Y-tip in a Yamaha engine; they seemed to foul out a lot less in a hotly tuned engine. I forget the brand. Are those still popular, or did they lose their appeal?
