cityjack 1 #1 Posted September 12, 2020 Evening all, I have what I think is garbage in my carb. 17hp v-twin Kohler. Cutting the lawn the other night and as it was running great, all of a sudden it started to miss at low rpms. The only way I could get it to smooth out was to partially choke it. New plugs by the way. I have the carb off to clean it, but have questions about the three different screw that are circled; red, blue, and green in the picture attached. What are they and where should they be? Thanks for any help you all can give and have a great weekend. Sid

cityjack 1 #3 Posted September 12, 2020 I owe you a biscuit and a glass of tea. Sir, I cannot thank you enough. I have the operators manual, the parts manual, and the gearbox manual, but this, this I didn't have. I cannot thank you enough. Have a great weekend. 953 nut 59,969 #4 Posted September 12, 2020 One fuel related problem on any small engine is the E-10 gas with ethanol. That junk will kill a fuel system. use this site to find gas without ethanol in it. https://www.pure-gas.org/

ET160 30 #6 Posted September 12, 2020 I have been having a lot of carb problems of late, too. I think ethanol and water have a lot to do with it. I had to put one carb in an ultrasonic cleaner to sort it out. Spraying it didn't work.
cityjack 1 #7 Posted September 12, 2020 Thanks for the inputs guys. This tractor has not in my 17 years of owning it EVER seen ethanol fuel. Usually 93 octane as well. I took the bowl off and there was junk in there. Some from the bowl gasket deteriorating, some rust from the bowl hold down bolt, and just basically from whatever has gotten past the fuel pump I guess. It looked there was maybe some junk in the main jet, but hard to tell. I have it all cleaned up and all ports and needles cleaned and blown out. I think I'm good to go. The float level looks correct too. However, I would like to replace the needle jet and seat as well as the bowl gasket and baffle. I think my baffle and gasket have become one. I honestly didn't even know they were separate pieces. Thanks G-West again sir. I also have a good reference on where the screws need to be adjusted as well. My question, the parts manual I have is old and probably the original. It says the needle and seat are only available with a rebuild kit (221519). does anyone know if this is the correct number for my carb and if the bowl gasket and baffle come with? See attached pics. Items 28, 29, & 34 is what I'm after. It would be awesome if I could this this kit from Amazon and have it in a couple days too. Have a great rest of the weekend. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,479 #8 Posted September 17, 2020 This manual may have the answer. It is hard to follow in file form because the charts cover 2 pages in the printed form. If you can display the correct 2 pages at the same time it is good. Garry
cityjack 1 #9 Posted September 17, 2020 Thank you again sir. I just received my rebuild kit today. I wanted to replace the main needle and seat in the bowl, along with the gaskets. The needle is no problem because you remove the float and the needle falls out. But the seat, I have absolutely no tool that will get in there between the float pivot posts to grab the 3/8" hex. The walls of my 1/4" drive deep dish are too fat. I almost need to buy some cheap harbor freight socket and grind it down to get in there. Any suggestions would be awesome. Thanks again guys. lynnmor 7,815 #10 Posted September 17, 2020 Try a nut driver, if that is still too fat buy a cheap one and grind it down.
