Bill D 2,248 #4 Posted September 9, 2020 (edited) Welcome, That is one of my favorite machines. The engine numbers should be stamped in the tin right above that sticker. There are a couple of videos online of that Briggs running. See if it sounds like yours. Check the compression in each cylinder. If one plug wire is removed, it should run on one cylinder. I don't think the valves are adjustable. That engine has been known to have valve seat issues and the coils sometimes go bad. Coil is easy to change. Runs good, hope its not a seat issue, defeat my purpose of an upgrade. It was this or a 13 hp Harbor frieght into the 308.
Howie 899 #6 Posted September 10, 2020 you have to grind the end of the valve stemto srt the clearance on those.
Bill D 2,248 #7 Posted September 10, 2020 Do you have any more pictures? It looks to be in beautiful shape. Is the paint original? Since it looks to have been well cared for, hopefully it won't have any major issues. Give it a good baseline. Change the engine and transmission oils. New fuel line, filters and plugs. I like to change the fuel shut off valve and grommet as well. The fuel pump is built into the carb. Very easy engine to work on. One of my favorites. I love the way it sounds at idle. Do you know why the previous owner decided to sell it? Bill
