1969? Lawn Ranger

Recommended Posts

mrtom

I’m a new guy here looking for info!   I bought a decent looking Lawn Ranger with the engine missing.  I found a nice 1993 H60 for it.  I had the base plate from the original engine so it bolts right up and looks to be in the proper position.  It does not fit under the hood with the air cleaner on so I’ll need a smaller air cleaner that will fit without the elbow on the carb.  I also need to know what size and kind of pulley I’ll need to run the tractor as well as the cutting deck.  Any help or advice would be truly appreciated!

This white engine was borrowed just to see how it fits.

you have a 1968 Lawn Ranger

it's good you have that base, they can be hard to find

originally your machine had a 3 groove pulley that was 2-1/2" diameter and had a 1" bore to fit  a H60 that had a 1" crankshaft. you see them on that big online auction site sometimes.  a lot of H60s you find used came from snow blowers and have 3/4" crankshafts.  you will then need to improvise with two 2-1/2" pulleys with 3/4" bore to run the deck and the drive

that borrowed engine appears to have the correct Lawn Ranger fuel tank with the filler neck coming through the hood? do you have a tank and it's mounting bracket for your replacement engine?

yes, you will need a different air cleaner and possibly different  carburetor and throttle linkage....any close up pictures of them? you may also need to change the muffler.....pictures?

That lawn ranger appears to be in nice condition.   What ever you do please don’t “hack” or modify that hood in anyway.    There are other options with finding an engine that will fit.

I don’t know how that minibike video got in there, it was unintentional!  Maybe i selected it by accident when uploading the tractor pic.  If the moderator can delete that video please do so!

i have the proper tank and mounting bracket so the filler goes through the hood.  I have a small muffler that I can use with a short pipe nipple and a 45 elbow.  Still thinking about throttle linkage etc. I promise not to hack up the hood!  😀

You can just go back to your post, click "edit" at the bottom, and delete the video. Then click save...

Today I mounted the H60 on the tractor.  Everything positions as it should.  I used a black pipe nipple and an elbow to mount a muffler.  I still need to fabricate something for the throttle cable, and I’ll worry about an air cleaner as this project moves forward.  I need to get a proper pulley for the 1” shaft.  Not sure where to find it.
The triple pulley in the picture is on another engine and impossible to remove.  It has been hammered and set screw destroyed etc. d I need to get a pulley.

Jump on your PC and do a little poking around online. There's a company called TB Woods that is sold by multiple sources.

You could certainly put an ad in our wanted section.

Mcmaster-carr. Grainger. Either one of them might have one.

You know now that I think about it.  PM or post all the measurements for me as best you can. I'll take a look and see what I have.

If you don‘t be able to find a pulley that fit‘s, you can also use at least a taper based 2 1/2“ Pulley with 3 rows.

They be available with Taper socket for several diameters, but the better Way to go is the Way @71_Bronco allready mentioned.

I don‘t have a lawn Ranger, but the gap between hood and Engine seems to be the same as on my 656.

About the Airfilter, the H60 and HH60 are similar i have on mine a Kohler Filtercase,

they seems to fit without any rework and be extreme Flat.

Maybe anybody have one in spare and will sell it to you.

Ok, why does it need a three row pulley?  One for the drive, one for the deck, and one for something else?   You can tell I’m new at this 🙄
Maybe I need an owner’s manual.   Is there a PDF online for that?

I just googled and downloaded a user manual.  Good for part numbers anyway!

there is a three groove pulley that 71 bronco mentioned on that big online auction site right now for the same money as A to Z

this is the air cleaner i have on my Lawn Ranger to clear the hood:
