Horizontal Briggs...

Recommended Posts

Jeff Hennig

Does anybody know what WH models came with a horizontal Briggs, I know the GT2500 and the Work Horse 1100 do... I am looking for the plate, drive pulley (w/bearing) and the bearing plate. From what I can tell only the 11hp needed this setup, the 16hp Work Horse doesn't use it(?)..

Thanks,

Jeff

Post an add in the wanted section of the classifieds.  The bearing is available at Napa for around $6.00 bucks. Bill

Jeff you can acquire the 1"drive pulley 101875, from a B60, B80, C82, or C85 and dremel out two of the notches on the back side to slip in the thrust bearing. The pulley you seek can be hard to come by.

The 16Hp Briggs will need the bearing plate unless the second to last character in the model number is a 3 or 4; that signifies ball bearings on the crank and I've seen both with and without.  If you're in a bone yard and see a GT1600/GT1642 Work Horse, you may find what you are looking for there in addition to the models Garry listed.  If your charging system is capable, what about going with an electric clutch?

Bds1984, thanks for the info, I thought the 16s might be stronger, but didn’t know there were ones with the plate.

You're welcome, Jeff.  If you are set on a Briggs, the majority of 18HP twins have ball bearings on the cranks; I've come across several on older Craftsman tractors from the 80s and early 90s.  Those may be a source for an upgrade in power and still retain a traditional Wheel Horse clutch.
